The Abbey or Sant’ Antimo is a former Benedictine monastery found in the commune of Montalcino. The origins of the abbey date back to the time of Charlemagne, with construction beginning before 1118, which is the date inscribed on the altar step and on a column to the left of it.

It is located about 9 km from the Via Francigena, the very important, ancient pilgrim route to Rome.
